OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS:

FOR THE STORE:

• SALES PERSONNEL - during store hours, MINIMUM time commitment 2.5 hrs per month.
• SORTER - general sorting of donations. MINIMUM time commitment 2 hours per week.
• CATEGORY CARETAKER - price books and maintain one or more categories. MINIMUM time commitment 3 hrs per week or as needed.
• HAULER/TRANSPORTER - load and transport boxes of books between library sorting area and store. MINIMUM time commitment 4 hrs per week.
• BOOK PICK UP - at donor's home, transport to library sorting room.
• PUBLICITY - help draft & implement publicity for the store.
• TIDY UP - dust, vacuum store on weekly basis.
• JACK &JACKIE OF ALL TRADES - Often a need for special help to build or repair shelving units, etc.

PAPERBACK SALES - up to four times a year (check the BGR home page for the next scheduled sale)

• MOVING BOXES of BOOKS from storage.
• SET-UP: Unbox books for table-top display. Break down cardboard boxes for next sale
• CLEAN UP

AUCTIONS OF RARE & SPECIAL BOOKS - at least twice a year (check the BGR home page for the next scheduled auction)

• RESEARCH information about special books, compile list of books for auction.
• SET UP & OVERSEE books while on display at the store.
• STAFF: record sales, notify winners, etc.

FRIENDS CAFE BOOKSTORE:

• STOCK book shelves as needed.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS: We have had great success with teen volunteers over the years. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate everyone, and our options are very limited. REQUIREMENTS for those wishing to earn community service hours 1. The teen's family has a membership in the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries (FSL) 2. Teen and family are residents of Saratoga, CA. 3. Once a job & time is set, the teen must take responsibility to show up as expected, since our regular volunteers often have to modify their own schedule to accommodate the teen's. In an emergency, the teen or family will contact the volunteer in charge. INFORMATION & OPTIONS Summer months allow more volunteer opportunities for teens. Check with your school to see if you can earn your hours ahead of time. During the school year, opportunities may include: SORTING BOOKS in the Saratoga Library, if the teen's schedule can dovetail with that of our volunteer supervisor. This is a weekly 2-hour commitment, for at least 3 successive weeks. PAPERBACK SALES: Currently the sales are held every 3 months in the Saratoga Library. Jobs include helping with set-up on Friday afternoon 3:30-5:30; Clean-up on Sunday afternoon 5:00-6:00. The sales are scheduled for the last weekend in October, January, April and July. Check our website for updates. BOOK-GO-ROUND store maintenance: 1 hour, once a week, after the store closes, usually 5:30-6:30. Jobs might include vacuuming, dusting, washing windows, etc. Wow! this would be great. NOTE: If a parent and teen wish to take a regular shift at the Book-Go-Round on a ongoing basis (2.5 hours, once a month for at least 6 months), we would be glad to have them, if an opening is available.
